The day after the American election, we face the scenario many observers feared. It is impossible so far to name a winner even though both candidates apparently succeeded in mobilizing massively their electorate. The count of the ballots will take a few more days in the Swing States, all the more since many electors voted by post because of the pandemic. We may expect a legal fight both camps got ready for by mobilizing armies of lawyers, a fight which may end up in front of the Supreme Court.
Whatever the final outcome, that election will have lasting consequences on the international scene and especially in the Middle East. In order to analyse the situation such as it will be in a couple of weeks, we organize with La Paix Maintenant a Zoom Conference on November 23rd, at 7 p.m. (Paris time).
In order to answer your questions, we invited two historians who will share with us their expertise to decrypt that situation.
*Nicole Bacharan, political analyst and historian, specialist in the American society and French-American relationships. Her most recent books are Le Monde selon Trump,Taillandier 2019 and First Ladies, avec Dominique Simonnet, Ed. Perrin 2018 and Tempus, sept 2020.
